Happy One Week Birthday, Kaleigh!

Kaleigh,

You are one week old today!!  You are a such delightful baby and a wonderful addition to our family!  You have such a sweet and relaxed temperament and are always happy unless you are ready to eat!

Here is what your daily routine has been like for these first few days at home.  Mom is a believer in Babywise, since it seemed to work so well with your brother!  This week has been mainly getting you to eat full meals and not snacking!!  Sorry for the cold wipes but sometimes you're a big sleepy head and would like to go back to eat after just a little snack! So far, it's been working for you too!!  You're slowly working yourself into the routine of eating every 2 1/2 or 3 hours, then having a little wake time, then back to sleep until it's time to eat again!  At night, you've been an angel, you go to bed around 8 or 9 wake up sometime around 12 or 1 to eat and then again around 3 or 4 to eat again.  After that, you'll sleep until 6 or 7 when we wake up for good and start our day.  Yesterday you even surprised us and only woke up one time during the night to eat!!  You sleep every minute during the night that you aren't eating, which has been WONDERFUL for mom!!  I hope this trend continues!!  

When it's time for bed, we swaddle you up in your swaddle blanket and put you in your crib that is beside our bed, you are sleeping great on your back so far.  Your brother refused to sleep on his back and after calling the doctor, mom and dad let him sleep on his tummy!

You love to sit in your bouncy seat and look around outside and we do that almost every afternoon while mom watches brother play in the back yard!  You sit and contently look around for an hour or so until you get sleepy!  You also love to be held upright on mom or dads chest and are happy to do that asleep or awake!  You're not so much into the activity mat or swing just yet, but I bet you'll love them soon!  Alec loves to get on your activity mat with you and entertain you, but so far, that hasn't lasted more than 5 minutes or so!

Your umbilical cord is still attached so we haven't been able to give you a really good bath just yet, but hopefully that will change in the next couple of days!  Your head full of long black hair is definitely looking a little greasy with just these little sponge baths and could use a good scrubbing!!  We can't wait to see if your hair is going to stay this full and dark!

You are wearing size newborn diapers and mostly size newborn clothes, although some of them are a little snug.  At your doctors check when you were 4 days old, you had lost almost a half of a pound and weighed 7lbs, 15oz.  But as good as you are eating, I bet you gaining weight again now.

Your brother is in love with you and can't seem to get enough of you (and so are mom and dad)!  If you are in a different room than him, he's constantly asking where you are and wanting to come check on you.  He would love to hold you 24 hours a day, or at least until you start getting hungry, then he's glad for mom to hold you.  He started back to day care yesterday and was calling your name as soon as he walked in the house!  Mom and Dad are so proud that he's being such loving big brother to his little sis!
